IsiZulu Home Language provides for language proficiency that reflects the mastery of basic interpersonal communication skills required in social situations, as well as the cognitive academic skills essential for learning in IsiZulu as a mother tongue.

Learning Aims:

Learners are guided towards developing the following knowledge, skills and attitudes:

1. acquiring the language skills needed to communicate accurately and appropriately with regard to the audience, purpose and context
2. speaking with confidence and enjoyment
3. reading/writing fluently and articulately
4. ability to share own ideas, views and emotions, both orally and in writing, to express with confidence their own opinions in IsiZulu, their mother tongue
5. to become independent and analytical thinkers
6. use the IsiZulu language as a tool for critical and creative thinking
7. expressing their values and interacting critically with a wide range of texts and perspectives
8. interacting critically with a wide range of texts; for challenging the perspectives, values and power relations embedded in texts
9. reading texts for various purposes, such as enjoyment, research, and critique
